Soup Shop Corvallis User Reviews

11/21/09 BR: The Soup Shop changed owners during the summer of 2009, and since then it has been a much different place. The soup itself has been extremely inconsistent (like you get the same soup two days in a row and they look/taste completely different), and the soup quality has undeniably decreased overall. This seems to be because of multiple chefs with differing recipes, and also because of, in many cases, the use of less ingredients or lower quality ingredients, and shortcuts. Greasier/fattier soups with less healthy vegetables. The soup prices are even slightly higher, which makes it doubly lame. They often have the same kinds of soups for many days in a row instead of changing them up like they used to. Salads are often on the older side and getting slimy. Business hours are extremely inconsistent as well and often don't match the hours posted on the door. In general, the Soup Shop is very hit or miss, and many have given up on it.

10/23/08 HD: My wife and I decided to try Soup Shop on Monroe. Soup was OK but arrived too cool, salad was OK with yummy honey mustard dressing. Price $8.75 for small soup and salad was too high in my opinion Once served, the staff turned their backs and ignored you. Cold atmosphere, I don't think we will go again.

2/9/08 NS: Highly recommended. The soup shop is clean, and fairly priced for the portions. Their price also takes into consideration that the soups are fresh and homemade. I watched a worker go through greens, leaf by leaf, and throw out the bad ones. They cook in an area clearly visible to everyone in the restaurant which shows their pride in their ingredients and methods. Their soup is ALWAYS delicious, too. The owner was there the day I ate lunch there and he was incredibly friendly to all of the customers he spoke with. His employee wasn't as friendly, but that's a common undertone in Corvallis service. All of the artwork on the walls is for sale, painted by the shop owners' wife. One nitpick: it was a sunny day (suprising! i know) and without some sort of window shades, the tables by the window were really uncomfortable. Regardless, this is a great community restaurant that embodies what Corvallis is about. I hope it's around for a long time.
